Make your Mark! with Yoko Tomita

Meet Yoko Tomita!

Yoko creates educational, accessible, and skill-building visual art activities for a variety of age groups. She is an art instructor for visual art classes, lantern making, and origami workshops in Vancouver. She works at Renfrew Park Community Centre, Collingwood Neighbourhood House, and Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House. She has been working on unique lanterns for installation and instructing lantern workshops for the Moon Festival and Winter Solstice Festival. She organizes visual art shows and an annual artisans market.

She has completed numerous community art projects in the east side of Vancouver, including street banners, a fountain mosaic project, and community murals. She engages with multicultural community members to create beautiful public art in the neighborhood. Her expressions of art show in bright colors, local animals, and flora and fauna in nature, which bring smiles and cheer to the public.

Her work extends to being a Neighborhood Cultural Network Developer for RCMAN (Renfrew Collingwood Multicultural Artists’ Network) and beyond, contributing to the community art movement.

Join us at the CNH Annex to work on old and new art projects! Every Thursday, we offer space for sketching, watercolour painting, acrylic painting, origami, embroidery, knitting, crocheting and more. This is also a great opportunity to drop by our art studio to learn and share skills.
